I reformated the HD and re-installed Windows XP and Office 2007. The Problem went away. I installed SP2 and still no problem. I installed all the Windows XP security updates after that and the problem CAME BACK. I performed System Restore to prior to all the Win XP updates (kept SP2) and NO MORE problem.

Hi Doug,

Unfortunately I only ever found this workaround, and never a proper solution.

Let me know if you get any progress with the issue though!

Rob

Hi Rob,

I ran into this problem where we added a mapped drive for indexing on a Vista SP2 machine and started having issues where Word 2007 could save to *.doc but not docx format. I turned off indexing the mapped drive and the problem stopped but we need to search that drive. Have you heard of any resolution for this problem?
